BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alcorn State’s Keondre Montgomery and Southern’s Tyrone Lyons for SWAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of conference play.
Player of the Week Keondre Montgomery, | Forward/Center | Alcorn State University
Montgomery helped lead Alcorn State to consecutive league wins this past week against Alabama A&M and Alabama State, respectively. He averaged 23.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 51.9 percent from the field – including 53 percent from three-point territory, over that span. Against Alabama A&M, he poured in 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, while going a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line. He followed that with a 23-point, eight-rebound effort against Alabama State.
Impact Player of the Week, Tyrone Lyons | Guard/Forward| Southern University
Lyons was a key contributor for the Southern Jaguars this past week as he helped lead SU to league wins over Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman respectively. He averaged 21.0 points per game while shooting a league leading 68.4 percent from the field. He also led the league in three-point field goal percentage (71.4) while ranking seventh in steals averaging 2.0 steals per outing during this past week of conference play.
